The Commoner-Born Empress

“Li Fengxi, you are hereby appointed Fangyi of the sixth rank!” Emperor Yu Mingqian announced, sounding lazy but serious. When they first met, she was dressed as a man. “I'm Li Fengxi.” With one matching couplet, she traded for his wolf-hair brush and his little bird. When they met again, she was his consort. “My Fangyi certainly knows how to write a fine couplet.” She was dutiful and modest, courteous to all. She never expected that though she'd never harmed anyone, people would still try to harm her. If that's how things were, why should she keep yielding? Eight years later, she had risen to the rank of Noble Consort, but she was weary. She no longer knew why she remained in the deep palace. Was it for power? Though she was close to fulfilling the vow she'd made back then, her heart was still troubled.
