After Winning the Lottery, I Just Want to Live Quietly as an Ordinary Person

Zhou Ping’an is twenty-nine, an operations employee at an ordinary company. He earns 6,800 yuan a month, and his bank balance is always hovering around the dangerous point where one more purchase means borrowing from Huabei. One night, he passes a lottery shop as usual and casually picks a set of numbers. The next day, the shop owner stares at the winning results on the machine for three seconds, then rolls his eyes back and nearly ends up in the hospital before Zhou does. He has won fifty million yuan. The problem is, Zhou Ping’an has no idea how to be rich. Afraid of losing the ticket, he wraps it in three layers of plastic wrap and stuffs it into his sock. Afraid his parents won’t believe him, he cautiously tells them he’s “maybe made a little money,” only for his mother to suspect he’s been recruited into a pyramid scheme. He tries to keep a low profile, but the bank manager, his former boss, distant relatives, classmates he hasn’t spoken to in years, and an ex who suddenly becomes very friendly all come sniffing around. The money came too fast, and his life hasn’t caught up. For the first time, he realizes that not every grievance has to be endured, not every relationship has to be maintained, and not every life has to be settled for. But he still hasn’t learned how to live a life that truly belongs to him.
