The Shutter Clicks Strangely, and Demons Fall at Once

Unemployed young man Zhou Muye stumbles into a strange photography studio, becomes its owner, and inherits a black-iron camera capable of sealing evil entities. The camera is the incarnation of the ancient divine artifact known as the Mirror That Illuminates Heaven. Photographing spirits can freeze their “rules for killing” in place; photographing haunted houses can reveal a “safe route”; photographing antiques can expose the spirits dwelling within them; and photographing monsters can reveal their true forms. Every click of the shutter is an act of “containment,” sealing an anomaly inside the “Mirror Image World” behind the camera. Once a photo is filed away, the entity is restored to its proper place. A court lady searches for a hairpin, a butcher seeks atonement, a ghost haunts an old theater, and a blood-soaked well breeds a murderous spirit... Through his lens, he records one old case after another, buried by time, and gradually comes to understand that not all anomalies are monsters. Many are simply lingering obsessions. The camera is the eye of the “mediator.” As the Human Emperor, demon foxes, the laws of Heaven, and the laws of Earth all make their entrance, the divine order of the Three Realms begins a new game of chess. Zhou Muye discovers that he has long been standing at the heart of the storm. One click of the shutter, and evil spirits scatter. File the photo away, and the demon is subdued on the spot.
