Fleeing Famine: Grandma Is Old but Tough

Gu Ya had just inherited the family business and become the manager of a supermarket when she transmigrated.

She even ended up in the body of an old woman with a penniless household and unfilial children and grandchildren.

In this world, the emperor is incompetent, the feudal lords are at war, bandits run rampant, corrupt officials are unscrupulous, and natural disasters never cease. The common people at the bottom of society can barely survive.

They say the ruler of Chu, three thousand li away, is benevolent and gives food and land to those with nowhere to go.

The village chief of Shitou Village slapped his thigh. “Let’s go! The whole village will seek refuge with the new ruler!”

“Go” is easy to say, but how can a whole family travel with nothing to their name?

“Mother, either stay in the village and wait to die, or sell Daya and Erya to pay for the journey and come with me. You choose!”

Looking at her shifty-eyed eldest son, Gu Ya kicked him without a moment’s hesitation.

“Choose, choose, choose? First, I choose to beat you to death, you unfilial brat! Why don’t you sell your own son?”

“I don’t need you to take me! I’ll take Daya and Erya and go on my own!”

“Fine! Go with those two money pits. Don’t come crawling back to me when you’re starving!”

Of course, Gu Ya wouldn’t starve, because the supermarket she inherited had come along with her!

With the supplies from the supermarket, she led her two granddaughters safely through the famine migration and into Great Chu, where she began an extraordinary second half of her life.

“Huh? I was just farming. How did I end up becoming Great Chu’s first female official?”
