After the Maid Went into the Wrong Room

After years in the household, Chun Tang only wanted to quietly serve as Xie Yanzhi’s bedchamber maid and become a respectable concubine in a distinguished family. She brewed tea and ground ink for him, laid out his clothes and kept watch through the night, thinking her life would always be this way. By day, he was the refined and proper eldest young master of the Xie family. But at night, he became someone else entirely… fierce and wild, as if he meant to tear her apart and devour her. Chun Tang was filled with suspicion, but she did not dare dwell on it. Until one day, on the desk of the young master, Xie Jin, she saw the good-luck charm she had embroidered for the eldest young master, lying quietly among the ink and brushes. When she turned around, Xie Jin was watching her with red-rimmed eyes. Once forgotten by his family, he had guarded the border for three years and become a celebrated general. Yet in front of her now, he seemed once more like the boy who had been rescued from the water, eyes rimmed red. “You’ve brewed tea for my big brother all these years…” He edged closer, his voice hoarse. “What about me? Am I not even worthy of the scraps left over?”
