The Great Desolation: Rewriting the Investiture of the Gods

Humanity was once the protagonist of Heaven and Earth. Yet after the Investiture of the Gods, there were no more Human Emperors or Human Kings, only Sons of Heaven. What is a Human Emperor? The common ruler of humanity, the emperor of the mortal realm, equal in rank to the Heavenly Emperor! What is a Human King? The one who commands humanity’s fortune and rules the four seas and eight wastelands, supreme among the nine ranks, king of the mortal realm, with a title no less exalted than the Heavenly Emperor’s! And what is a Son of Heaven? A son of Heaven! A Son of Heaven? A joke. Among humanity, there should be only Human Emperors and Human Kings, never Sons of Heaven. Ever since the Investiture of the Gods, Human Kings have been called Sons of Heaven. Very well, then: let us rewrite the Investiture of the Gods!
