A Minor Official in Chang'an During Zhenguan

“I am Fan Zheng, neighborhood chief of Dunhua Ward. I hold the keys to the ward gates and keep watch for crime.” Fan Zheng, newly come of age, stands at the ward gate. He straightens his soft-footed futou cap, lightly twirls a short jujube-wood baton, and has two burly ward guards behind him. He has a youthful face and regular, square features. He can’t exactly be called handsome, but he’s certainly not ugly either.
