Seizing the Deer at the End of the Sui

In the ninth year of Daye, during the Sui dynasty, Pei Jing stood beneath the walls of Liaodong City, trapped in a dead end with no way forward or back.

The Sui dynasty was already sinking into twilight. The great aristocratic families sharpened their blades, ready to seize the realm; ambitious tribes from the steppes pressed south, and rebel armies and bandits stood armed on every hill.

Standing atop the corpse of the Sui dynasty, Pei Jing surveyed the realm and cried out, “I came, I saw, I conquered!”

I, Pei Jing, am going to be emperor, no matter what!
