The universe is originally composed of chaotic energy. Pangu (an impersonal god, but an innate chaotic will) created the heaven and the earth. The pure air rose to become the heaven (the thirty-third heaven), the turbid air sank to become the earth (eighteen layers of netherworld, four seas and eight wastes, and the wild mountains and seas). The interweaving of clear and turbid air in the middle transformed into the human world (the middle earth of Kyushu, the four directions and the four poles)
