Light and Shadow Thangka
In 1642 (the fifteenth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty), Gushi Khan of the Mongolian Heshuote tribe marched into Tibet at the invitation of the Gelug sect, overthrew the Zangba Khan regime and established the Ganden Phodrang regime. A student from the Oil Painting Department of the Modern Academy of Fine Arts traveled to Gyantse, Tibet, in the 17th century, and rewrote the history of Thangka art with his "eyes of light and shadow".
