Su Haohao of the Tang Dynasty

At the end of the Sui dynasty, Su Haohai had lived in seclusion in the mountains with her grandfather all her life. When she was seven, she went down the mountain with him to visit relatives and friends. There she happened to meet the young master Xu Shiji, but before their friendship could even begin, her grandfather whisked her away without a word. Not long afterward, her grandfather, who had suddenly decided to go save the day and accomplish great things, foisted her off on Yuchi Gong, a burly blacksmith. Looking at the dark, blacksmith uncle, Su Haohai cautiously tried to strike a bargain. “Could we just pretend? I’m already betrothed, to Xu Shiji.” Seven years later, as heroes rose across the land, Yuchi Gong and Xu Shiji, now serving in different armies rebelling against the Sui, unexpectedly crossed paths.

“Xu Shiji’s fiancée is surnamed Lu!”

“Ah, I never got the chance to tell him…”
