Taking Away Your Loneliness

“I like you!” The first time they met, she declared her love for him loudly, in full view of everyone. What was that supposed to mean? He wondered, ignoring her. “I like you!” The next time they met, she shouted it like a solemn vow, her face set with stubborn resolve. Impressive courage. He pursed his lips and said nothing. “I like you!” When they met again, she was brimming with enthusiasm, her eyes filled with determination. Too much energy. He turned away and quietly left. She’d give up eventually, wouldn’t she? After all, nobody could stand being treated so coldly. He was determined to be the heartless one. Hmph! Forceful? If he remembered correctly, that was supposed to describe him. What? She was even more domineering than he was? Fine! He’d show her what real domination looked like! Huh? Why did his temper evaporate the moment he faced her, and why did even his cold words quietly grow warmer? When had he started to change?
