Possessing Supernatural Powers

Zhang Zhi has read widely in books on martial arts and is a skilled calligrapher. Then he arrives in a Ming dynasty that is not quite the same as the one in history!

There is still an emperor called Wanli, and the eunuchs are still swaggering about, with secret agents everywhere. But the Embroidered Uniform Guard has become the Golden Uniform Guard, and not a single one of the famous Wanli-era officials he knows from history exists!

Wanting not just to survive, but to live comfortably, Zhang Zhi has no choice but to navigate this familiar yet strange world and all the colorful characters in it, writing his own story one stroke at a time!

In Buddhist terminology, supernatural powers are abilities so vast that they can do anything.

The Shurangama Sutra describes six such powers:

The Heavenly Eye: the ability to see things far away.

The Heavenly Ear: the ability to hear sounds from afar.

Mind Reading: the ability to know the thoughts and deeds of all beings.

The Power of Spiritual Travel: the ability to travel at will to distant places.

Knowledge of Past Lives: the ability to know the past karma of all beings.

The End of Defilements: “Defilements” are afflictions. This power breaks attachments and afflictions, freeing one from the cycle of rebirth.
