A Husband-Blessing Fate

Wang Yunchang transmigrated into the body of a child whose mother had just died. His scumbag father eyed him greedily, and he had a money-draining golden finger.

Xu Songnian was a posthumous child and a premature baby. Everyone thought he wouldn't survive or grow up, and a miracle physician said he wouldn't live past twenty.

He thought so too, until she came to his family.

At seventeen, he entered the academy and passed the provincial examination.

At twenty-seven, he placed on the imperial examination's honors list and was exceptionally appointed to the Grand Secretariat.

At thirty, he became Chief Grand Secretary, a position he held for twenty years.

Four emperors came and went, but Xu Songnian remained Chief Grand Secretary.

Some said Xu Songnian was good in every way, except that his wife was no good: she had no talents of her own, had given him no children, and wouldn't let him take concubines.

Xu Songnian replied, "I owe everything I have today to my wife's good fortune."

At fifty, he sought retirement, but the entire court couldn't persuade him to stay.

The emperor asked, "Why?"

Xu Songnian replied, "The Grand Empress Dowager and my wife always cheat when they play cards."
