Cremation Consent Form

The cremation indicator light at the funeral home came on.

Red.

Gu Nancheng stared at the light as if it were a death sentence. He threw himself against the glass, pounding it with his palms. His nails split, and blood smeared across the glass, leaving streak after streak of red.

"Stop! The body hasn't been identified! Stop, you bastards!"

The staff ignored him. The process was complete. The cremation consent form had been signed by the family. He was the one who signed it.

He had signed it with his own hand.

Three days earlier, outside the ICU, the doctor had handed him a critical condition notice. He glanced at it and signed. The pen tip pierced the paper.

His phone rang.

It was Zheng Yilan's father.

"Nancheng, come take a look at that project. Yilan's brother isn't quite sure what to do..."

He glanced at the two words "Lin Yumo" on the critical condition notice, put the pen back in his pocket, and said, "All right, I'll be right there."

After telling his assistant to handle the follow-up, he left.

She never got to see him come back.

And now, that red light was shining inside, while the roaring flames in the furnace consumed her: Lin Yumo, the person he loved most in this life.

Or so he thought.
