When the Wind Rises at Haimen: I Transmigrate to the Wanli Era to Sit the Imperial Exams

(Not a wish-fulfillment novel, no golden finger, with a relatively strong focus on historical accuracy)

A fifteen-year-old middle school student transmigrates to the Ming Dynasty during the Wanli era and becomes Xing Tingyan, a ten-year-old orphan from Sheng County, Shaoxing Prefecture.

With neither father nor mother, he soon loses the grandfather who had always cherished him.

At the funeral hall, he clashes with his uncle. Though the room is full of senior relatives, not one of them speaks up for him.

He searches his memories and discovers that his maternal uncle, Zhou Rudeng, passed the jinshi examination and is a second-generation disciple of Wang Yangming's school of thought.

So, with a small boat and a canal, he leaves his hometown and embarks on a life of studying far from home.

He will sit the imperial examinations, pass the jinshi examination, enter officialdom, and save the dynasty from collapse.

The catastrophe that will come decades later hangs over him like a sword above his head.

Since he has come to this world, he will not let its flourishing civilization, nor this legacy of scholarship, be trampled beneath iron hooves.
