From One Ember, a Flame

With his entire family slaughtered, he opened his eyes among the corpses.

In his previous life, he was a desperate rogue cultivator from the bottom of society. Trusting no one, he died in a deadly ambush. In this life, he is the sole survivor of the Xuanqing Sect, and the blade that destroyed his sect has only just fallen.

Deep in the ruins, an ancient mirror awakens in his sea of consciousness: the Samsara Mirror. Sign-ins, missions, rewards. It is as cold as a set of scales: what it offers is never enough to satisfy him, forcing him to risk his life to seize what he wants.

He steps over the bones of his sect and heads into a wider world, only to discover that his sect's destruction was merely the first move in a game of chess. Someone is searching for what the sect concealed, someone is watching him, and someone up above is waiting to see this pawn grow into a rival.

Revenge is too trivial, survival too urgent, and growing stronger too slow.

The embers are still warm. It's the entire chessboard that should burn.
