The Complete Book of Huai Guang's Fading Light

For three years, locust blossoms have fallen in Qinghuai Lane, Jiangbei, Wencheng.

Chen Guang, a documentary photographer, and Xiao You'er, a market planner, fell in love in a courtyard in the old neighborhood.

They once shared a bowl of sweet soup, developed film together in a darkroom, and made a promise beneath the locust tree. But cracks slowly formed beneath their love: one cherished the old city's quiet life and wanted only to keep recording the world through his camera; the other longed for distant places and dreamed of reaching a bigger stage.

A lost connection while scouting in the mountains, arguments over renovating the courtyard, and a project ruined on a typhoon night, taking all their hard work with it, were compounded by a work photo that suspicion magnified out of proportion. Their conflicts piled up, then erupted in the courtyard during a downpour.

With red-rimmed eyes, Xiao You'er said they should break up, quietly hoping he would reach out and ask her to stay;

Chen Guang fell silent, convinced she had already made up her mind to leave.

There was no third party, no sordid betrayal. Just two people who loved each other deeply, trapped behind walls built by their own natures. Again and again, they missed their chances to reconcile, held back by pride, fear, and lives heading in opposite directions.

Years later, a photo of the old locust tree happened to appear in her feed as part of a photography exhibition. She quietly liked it, without commenting or reaching out.

The locust-tree light grew dim as evening fell; the mountains were high and the waters far. The morning light that once illuminated the mouth of the lane could only remain in memory. They would never walk together again.
