She Followed the Rules and Became a Goddess

The fate official said the child was "destined to die." She reached out, and a thread of true fire fell, severing the thread of fate wrapped around the child's soul. No one knew that she herself was the "kindling" the Heavenly Dao had nurtured for a hundred thousand years: the last descendant of the phoenix. Each time she was reborn from the ashes, another phoenix mark appeared on her fate chart. When all nine marks were complete, she would be set alight upon an unseen altar. Her fire could sever other people's destinies, but it could not burn away her own death. From the moment she severed that thread of fate, she became the one thing the entire Heavenly Dao most wanted to reclaim. What she had to do was burn the book of fate that had been written long ago.
