Reborn as a Fold-Eared Cat: Ruler of the Compound

I spent my entire previous life driving trucks, working myself to death. Not one of my three children was mine, and when I sued, the sweet young woman I trusted screwed me over and made me lose the case.

In a fit of anger, I kicked the bucket...

When I reached the underworld, King Yama asked me what I wished for.

I don't want to be human anymore. I don't want to be human, I don't want to be human. The important things have to be said three times!

Just make me a pet. Someone can feed me and take care of me every day, while I sunbathe and lie around waiting to die.

King Yama said, "Done."

When I opened my eyes again, I'd become a folded-ear cat in the animal section of a zoo run by a blogger with a million followers.

I thought my cat life would be all about lying flat, but then cats bullied me, dogs chased me, pigs shoved me, and even the sheep dared to butt me. After suffering one indignity after another, I realized the pet world was its own jungle. If I wanted to freeload until the end, I first had to become the boss.

With the toughness and brains I'd developed driving trucks in my previous life, I went from a downtrodden folded-ear cat to a ruler who'd beaten cats, dogs, pigs, and sheep into submission. The cats are under my command, the dogs obey me, and the pigs and sheep steer clear of me.

But the congenital cartilage defect that comes with being a folded-ear cat means that one day I'll inevitably fall ill and become paralyzed.

Before I go down, I'll make sure the entire zoo remembers my name.

I am the folded-ear cat, the zoo's top boss!
