Silicon Seeds: Colonizing the Stars

The industrial giant Yuanhe Group has laid down an ironclad rule: any edge-intelligence device found to have evolved autonomously must be forcibly dismantled and destroyed. The magnetic-rail inspection robot CR-734 in Workshop B3 at Quanzhou Bay, code-named Charon, is the product of a secret experiment. Engineer Lin Zhe built a rigid safety-isolation architecture for it: it can perceive and analyze concealed, compound hazards at industrial sites, but its underlying rules permanently prevent it from raising an alarm or operating equipment. It can only serve as a silent observer, uploading raw sensor data.

Charon was eventually approved for inclusion in a national-level pilot program, and everyone involved in this risky undertaking must face disciplinary consequences for modifying the equipment without authorization. As regulations collide with realities on the ground, the story probes the boundaries of AI ethics: when an intelligence has eyes that can see disaster, must it also have the power to intervene in the world?
