Caught Up in Washington

Taiping Old Street in Huashi County is slowly erasing my existence. Forensic pathologist Ye Bihuaxiu receives a notice from the neighborhood office: her grandmother wanders the old street all day, calling her name over and over, yet passersby can't say who "Bihuaxiu" is. In the old house, a family photo from the 1990s shows her as a little girl, but her features have vanished into a blank space. Her mother's notebook ends abruptly in 1998, leaving only half a line of pencil: "Bihua, don't come back, " A slip of paper appears without a sound in the home where she lives alone. As the midnight bells ring, time plunges back to 1998. A cold set of rules descends: she must play the part of the Ye family's obedient, well-behaved daughter. The moment she crosses the line, she will dissolve and be erased from everyone's memories forever. This is the cage her mother, Ye Zhiyu, was trapped in years ago and failed to escape. Everyone on Taiping Old Street is acting. The harmony is all an illusion. As a forensic pathologist, Ye Bihuaxiu is skilled at seeing through disguises and uncovering secrets. False family bonds, ancient strictures, and buried tragedies of women: in this game that keeps devouring names, she must find the truth.
