Yi Du Crosses Mountains and Seas

Everyone said Gu Yizhong was a moon beyond the clouds, beautiful yet impossibly distant. Cool and self-possessed, steady and reserved, he had spent half his life keeping his feelings in check and had never made an exception for anyone. Zhang Haimo, meanwhile, was like flecks of sea foam bobbing with the wind, gentle yet resilient, ordinary but full of passion, with a warmth that made any place feel like home. They first met on a rainy autumn night. She ducked in from the storm in a sorry state and stumbled into his cool, tranquil gaze. From then on, day after day, she edged closer with careful steps, believing her feelings were a one-sided journey across mountains and seas. Then, late one night with no one around, the usually aloof man gripped her wrist, years of restrained affection surging in his eyes. “Zhang Haimo, you’re not the one crossing the distance to reach me.” “I’ve been waiting among the sea of people for you, this fleck of sea foam, to drift into the years ahead of me and find your home with Yizhong.” Everyone knew Gu Yizhong was a man whose heart never wavered. Only after he met Zhang Haimo did his frozen tenderness melt away completely. For all the long years to come, he would fall tenderly for no one but her. The fleck of sea foam finally finds her way into Yizhong’s years to come. May they live in peace and love, year after year.
