The Jade Vein of Paksan

In the third year of Yuanshuo of Great Chu, at Moonrise Hollow on Mount Cangwu, the mortal Chen Pu found an ancient relic, the Earth Vein Jade Register, during a landslide. The Register had no spirit and could not grant cultivation. It could only reveal the earth's mountains and veins, locate spirit springs, and identify baleful forces. A neighboring village had been slaughtered by rogue cultivators, and mortal lives were worth less than weeds. As head of the Chen clan, Chen Pu had no spiritual roots or divine abilities. He could only stake the lives of his entire clan on finding a faint spirit spring with the help of the Register. The clan was divided. Some feared the dangers of the immortal path and wanted to abandon the Register and guard their barren mountain. The young, unwilling to remain ants forever, longed to cultivate and protect themselves. Chen Pu laid down an ancestral rule: cultivate only to protect yourselves; blood ties matter more than eternal life. He painstakingly worked out a rudimentary method of drawing in qi, and watched with his own eyes as clan members suffered cultivation deviation. He endured the Shi family's extortion and encroachment, quietly studying the earth veins and laying safeguards for his clan. After thirty-five years of painstaking work, the mortal Chen Pu never set foot on the path to immortality, yet he carved a narrow gateway to the immortal path for the Chen clan. Mountains have worn stones, and veins ebb and flow. With an unassuming heart, he guarded the mountain, and his legacy would endure for generations.
