Sybil in a Bottle

"Sibyl in the Bottle" is dismantled and reconstructed from the novel "Miscellaneous Civilization: Among the Ashes". It is the first chapter of "Twenty Archives of Civilization" and the first step in transforming the entire novel into "each story can be read independently". The story starts from the opening sentence of Eliot's "The Waste Land" "I want to die" and pursues the Kumaisibir who is trapped in the container. Legend has it that she asked Apollo for a life span equal to that of a grain of sand, but she forgot to ask for youth. From then on, she lived for nearly a thousand years, her body continued to age, but death was always rejected. The work uses classical documents, the Cumae Cave, the Temple of Apollo and the Sistine Chapel as clues to trace a life-technology accident covered by myth: after the destruction of Ur, the life-support facility transferred to the Mediterranean only retained the authority to "continue to survive", but lost the exit to restore youth and actively stop. Apollo can give but cannot take back; Sybil cannot end her life and can only retain her final right to refuse the future by burning six volumes of prophecies. From the Roman palace to Michelangelo's dome, to Ismar's warning by the Guilin lake, the story ultimately asks: When life can be extended indefinitely, is death still a right? If life can only continue and cannot be withdrawn, is eternal life a gift or the longest prison?
