Mulberry Fields, Qin Luofu

In the sixth year of Yuanguang, under the rule of Emperor Wu of Han, Liu Che, the Western Han dynasty was gradually reaching its height. That year, work began on the canal which, once completed, would draw water from the Wei River at Chang'an, connect to the Yellow River in the east, transport grain from the eastern regions, and irrigate thousands of acres of farmland. Since the early Han dynasty, wealthy merchants had amassed enormous fortunes, leaving the people broadly impoverished. The greatest currency reform since the founding of the Western Han was now in full swing. Li Yannian, Western Han musician and founder of the Music Bureau, was still a folk singer traveling the countryside to collect songs. At the same time, Han armies were marching on Longcheng, advancing against the Xiongnu along four routes. The outcome was uncertain. This was an age when every trade was flourishing and social vitality was constantly being stirred to life, but also one marked by clashes and tensions between old and new powers, with an air of uncertainty. Above all, it was an age in which heroes could earn glory and build great legacies! What were the lives and inner worlds of ordinary people like in such a time? Qin Luofu was an ordinary woman from a village at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain, near Shanglin Park. When she suddenly heard that her fiance, Liu Yulang, was about to join Wei Qing's campaign against the Xiongnu, she fled her village in the middle of the night and set out for Chang'an. On the way, she encountered Feng Nu, the Goddess of Mulberry, and was framed into joining the Western Weaving Bureau as a royal weaver. Thus began her legendary journey. With the clever help of ancient gods such as Leizu, Lei Gong, Kuafu, Houyi, and the Golden Crow, she continually advanced her silk-weaving skills, overcame crises caused by monsters, evildoers, and Xiongnu spies trying to steal the art of silk weaving, and kept surpassing herself until she became the "Great Han's First Weaver."
