The Heavenly Kingdom: A Tale of 1837

A new author’s work, this novel tells the story of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and half the history of the late Qing. It is a sweeping, epic tale. The story begins in the seventeenth year of the Daoguang reign, when Hong Xiuquan fails the imperial examination. It covers the major events of the Qing dynasty and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom during this period, including the Jintian Uprising, the establishment of the Yong’an system, the founding of the Heavenly Capital at Tianjing, the breaking of the Jiangnan and Jiangbei encampments, the Second Opium War from beginning to end, and finally the fall of Tianjing.
