Double Orange

On the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month in the eleventh year of Shaoxing, it snowed heavily in Lin'an. That night, Dali Temple jailer Kui Shun was on duty. Before dawn, he carried a body out of the city and buried it by the water in the north of the city. He planted two orange trees on the grave, and tied a jade ring around the body's waist. That corpse is Yue Fei. The regulations of the Song Dynasty read: Prisoners without relatives who are buried should be given a coffin by the government, and they have the right to be buried on official land and have a plaque with their name. Therefore, on the documents from the 11th year of Shaoxing, there is a line of perfectly legal words: Buried in official land. And the Crown land was empty. Before his death, Wei Shun handed over the matter to his son, and said only one sentence: If the court wants to recover this body in the future, you can go and receive the reward, as evidenced by the inscriptions on the coffin. His son was twelve years old. In the next twenty years, the child grew up to be a book-poster in the library of Dali Temple, facing the library full of documents every day. He wanted to find out what was written on that roll of paper and decide when to open it before anyone else opened it. Deleting it, changing it, or talking about it are all capital crimes. He had to swallow his drunken words, watch the two orange trees being plowed down, and pretend to be a responsible person year after year. In July of the 32nd year of Shaoxing, an edict came down: recover the original official, bury him with ceremony, and visit his successor. The whole of Lin'an was asking where Yue Fei's bones were. Only he knows. His surname is Wei. His name is not in the history books.
