Last Words Credited: Collecting Skills from the Dead

Night-shift mortician Wen Jiu has a secret: he can hear the dead person's final words. If he completes one last errand for the deceased, he can claim the skill they were best at in life as payment. The price is simple: accept the job with a smile, finish it in tears. Every completed job forces him to relive the dominant emotion the deceased felt on their final day. Thanks to this ability, Wen Jiu has taken twenty-four jobs and acquired twenty-four skills. From a taxi driver's drifting and maneuvering to an old chef's wok technique and heat control, he knows a little about everything but isn't an expert at anything. Life is tight, but at least he's alive. Then he takes an empty commission: no deceased, no final words, just an advance payment. The client fell into a river three years ago, leaving behind a box of drafts and a hit list hidden inside a coffin.
