"Migrating South" is a short story written by Yu Dafu in 1921. It tells the story of Yi Ren, a Chinese student studying in Japan who was physically and mentally exhausted and went to the pleasant Fangzhou coast for recuperation at the suggestion of a friend. In the natural scenery and Christian groups in a foreign land, he met the female student O, and subtle emotions developed between them. However, this relationship ended without a cure due to the jealousy and slander of others. Yi Ren was eventually admitted to the hospital in loneliness and pain, and the story ended with a desolate scene of him lying on the hospital bed. Through Yi Ren's delicate and sensitive inner monologue and poetic description of the surrounding environment, the novel shows the spiritual dilemma of the educated youth in the May Fourth period caught between the times - they have the desire for ideal love, but they are also trapped in the dual pain of personal loneliness and social repression.
