The sixty-four hexagrams are used as the latitude and longitude of the whole book, and each hexagram corresponds to a chapter. The thirty-four hexagrams in the upper sutra describe the "way of heaven" (the illusion of Taixu, the origin of cause and effect), and the thirty-four hexagrams in the lower sutra describe "human relations" (the tribulations of the world of mortals, the return to true enlightenment). It takes the "Twelve Causes and Conditions" as the main narrative line and the "Four Noble Truths" as the structural skeleton - the truth of suffering, the truth of origin, the truth of cessation and the truth of path.
