After Returning to the Village in the 1960S, the Whole Town Treated Me Like Their Darling

The Li family sent their adopted daughter, Ruan Mianmian, back to the Ruan family, promising to bring her back in three years. Ruan Mianmian was thrilled at the thought of Ruan Family Village, nestled against the mountains. She raced all the way there, kicking up dust behind her. She had just three wishes for her time in the village: Bring home more meat, and make everyone in the Li family plump and well-fed. Bring home more meat, and make her master and fellow disciples plump and well-fed. Bring home more meat, and make all the little brothers who followed her plump and well-fed! But once she arrived in Ruan Family Village... Her soft-hearted father felt guilty toward her. When she went up the mountain, he hunted wild boars; when she beat someone up, he handed her a knife. Her frail mother would burst into tears over her. When she cut pigweed, her mother wanted to butcher a pig; when she picked mushrooms, her mother tested them for poison. Her domineering, fierce grandmother would give her everything she had and stand up to the whole world for her. Her honest older brother and lazy younger brother, her hardworking older sister and clever younger sister... Her uncles and aunts crouched outside the window. Huh! And even the village chief was peeking through the crack in the door! Ruan Mianmian clenched her little fists. “Oh, well. I’ve helped the Li family make a fortune and eat their fill, brought my master and senior brothers and sisters along, and haven’t left my little brothers behind. There’s just one more family to take along: the Ruan family. Um, I mean, all of Ruan Family Village!” Ruan Mianmian rolled up her sleeves and got to work, determined to take the Ruan family back to the capital in three years to enjoy the good life. Three years later... The Li family, her master, and her little brothers had been framed! Ruan Mianmian: “Oh, no! The sky is falling!!!”
