1914: This Cat Is Infiltrating America

August 1914, the White House. “Mr. President, the flames of war have engulfed all of Europe. America has to enter the war, and Congress agrees!” Looking at his Secretary of War, President Wilson silently took a puff of his cigar. “America entering the war now would be foolish! Mr. President, if Britain sides with the Central Powers, we’ll be caught between two fronts!” The Secretary of the Navy slammed the table and roared. The Secretary of War was furious too. He grabbed the Navy Secretary by the collar. “This is an opportunity America gets once in a century. If we don’t seize it, do you want the President to go down in history as a criminal?” The Navy Secretary was just as unyielding. “Entering the war now is what would make him a criminal in history!” … The two men argued fiercely, and the White House staff’s uproar threatened to lift the roof. Wilson took a heavy drag on his cigar. Thunder rumbled outside the window, as if the weight of the whole world were pressing down on his desk. Meow~ Beyond the angry crowd, a cat suddenly meowed from the corner of the office. Wilson froze for a moment, then stepped forward and bent down to pick up the soft ball of fur. He buried his face in the cat’s back and took a deep breath. “Charlie, do you think they’re done arguing yet?” he murmured, gently rubbing the cat’s ears. Charlie the cat yawned, lowered its eyelids, and lazily flicked its tail. Meow has no idea if they’re done arguing. It’s so boring watching a bunch of people argue over something Meow already knew in elementary school. Meow only called out because it was hungry~
