The story is set during the reign of Renzong Jingyou in the Northern Song Dynasty. The capital city of Bianjing was prosperous and elegant, but the elegance of scholars was prevalent, but women were strictly restrained. The imperial harem and the inner residences of the top aristocratic families in Bianjing are the most glamorous and coldest prisons for women in the world. This work abandons the traditional core of love and competition for favor, and focuses on a female perspective throughout the story, focusing on concubines in the harem, matrons of aristocratic families, concubines, court ladies, and other high-ranking women.
