Detective novelist Kono Yajusuke encounters his old friend Shutani Senshiro in a night market. He is confused because his appearance has changed drastically and his identity is a mystery. Shugu once fell out with Yachisuke because of Luzi, and later worked at Huashan Crematorium. Yagisuke receives a death notice from Shugu, but sees him again at the night market. Shuutani claims that he can allow Yajusuke to see his deceased wife and will take him to the mysterious tavern. After Yajusuke fell into a coma, he woke up and found that he was in the Cremation Country. This place was created by Shutani and General Ichinomiya. It is an "ideal country" where people are faked and brought here. Shutani tells Konano about his plans, which include fake cremations and poisons that put people into suspended animation. Kono finally refuses to become a resident of the Cremation Kingdom. How will Shugu treat him? Can he still return to Tokyo?
