The Unofficial Supernatural Investigator of the Dali Temple

[Hunting Criminals and Solving Cases + Judge of the Underworld + Two Geniuses in a Battle of Wits] Pei Yanchu, the Vice Minister of the Dali Temple, has solved countless bizarre cases in his life and has never failed. Until one day, a case involving a prince consort turning himself in for murder lands in his hands. The case file clearly states: poisoning his birth mother, murdering his father-in-law, and assassinating his wife. But what he discovers is this: The so-called “birth mother” is alive and well in a small courtyard west of the city, receiving money and medicine delivered on time every month. As for the so-called “father-in-law,” the authorities search through every household register and marriage document but find no record of the prince consort marrying anyone before the princess, much less any “father-in-law.” The so-called “wife” is sitting right across from him, filling in every detail for him, from the location of the murder weapon and the time the body was buried to the specifics of the crime. Every place he investigates confirms one of her statements. On the night he finds the final piece of evidence, Pei Yanchu pushes the case file in front of her: “I have verified every case you mentioned.” Shen Wenyu rises to leave when he suddenly speaks: “But you still haven’t told me why you, a dead woman, are still standing here.” [He investigates cases in the mortal realm, while she bears witness to old debts in the underworld] [One does not believe in ghosts or gods, while the other specializes in guiding wronged souls]
