Calling the Enemy Dad, Mom, and Big Brother

Meng Huaizhang, an aging veteran of the imperial exams who has failed time and again, was a victim of cheating in the examination halls. In the first half of his life, he spent his entire fortune trying to secure an official post. In the second half, he spent everything he had hiring an assassin. His target is Zhou Deming, who is about to take up the post of magistrate in Qingxi County. But Zhou ends up dead, and Meng didn’t kill him. Worse, Jin Sanniang, a wanted martial-world fugitive searching for her daughter, catches him burying the body and making a painfully obvious attempt to cover his tracks. As luck would have it, Xiao Qi is chased here by pursuers of unknown origin, where he stumbles upon Meng burying the body and Jin Sanniang rifling through the dead man’s belongings. The three flee in Zhou Deming’s carriage. Just then, the young girl Su Nianjiu appears to be taking refuge in it in a panic, and by a stroke of fate, she becomes their accomplice. Four strangers with nothing to do with one another are brought together in Qingxi County by pursuers and a murder investigation. Suspected of murdering a court official and chased by three groups, the four form a new family, each with their own agenda: the Zhou family. They decide to roll with the mistake and impersonate the new magistrate of Qingxi County. The authorities’ pursuit, the martial world’s hunt, and the constant risk of having their identities exposed aren’t the greatest dangers these four face. The real danger lies in their dark true identities and the blunt knife of their mutual suspicion. Their main task is to play the fake magistrate’s family flawlessly while calmly handling the yamen’s endless affairs, putting past grudges aside to deal with the trouble at hand. Pretend to be a family → solve cases → hunt down the culprit → keep their covers from being blown: that’s practically the four’s daily routine. With the other three supporting him, Meng Huaizhang rises through the ranks and accidentally becomes a high-ranking official. The whole family of four goes to the palace to meet the emperor: “Your Majesty, forgive us. If one of our fakes is found wanting, we’ll replace it three times over!”
