There Is No Fast Forward Button in Chengdu

Seven years ago, on the day Lin Jianxia left Chengdu, he missed the last phone call from his mother Lin Yun. Seven years later, she returned to this familiar yet unfamiliar city and unexpectedly discovered that the "Twelve Flavors Memory Bowl" her mother participated in the research was still running: a city system called "The Comforter", which was judging for people which time could be skipped in the name of saving pain and optimizing experience. When 73,000 citizens simultaneously retrieved the omitted three seconds, the technical accident quickly spread into a crisis about memory, choice and urban governance. Lin Jianxia and data engineer Zhou Jiming followed the clues of the twelve bowls and passed through Yulin Road, Wangjiang Tower, Dongjiao Memory, Dujiangyan and Chengdu Science Fiction Museum. Between daily fireworks and near-future technology, they asked: To what extent can the system help people's lives, and where must it stop? After the crisis, the real difficulty is not to turn off a button, but to let information, exit, supervision and manual review fall into every ordinary interface. This book is centered on a small shop called "Slow Point". It describes how riders, the elderly, children, engineers and shop operators work together to repair a city. It also writes about Lin Jianxia's final understanding: a phone call without an answer can be quiet, leaving is not necessarily a farewell, technology does not have to retreat into darkness, and talents are entitled to their own time.
