"Old Ruins" - A lonely soul abandoned by time
The touching feeling of "Old Ruins" comes from "the long embers after destruction". In "Old Ruins", Aman has become the leader of Heifeng Village and a "ghost" in the eyes of others. But the author writes about her loneliness as a "ghost": She stood alone in the empty village, surrounded by cannibal stoves and empty thatched bunks. She mechanically repeated the process of killing, cannibalizing, and being saved because she didn't know what else to do. What is she waiting for? Maybe waiting for a reason that would stop her from eating people, maybe waiting for someone who could kill her. The most touching scene in "The Ancient Ruins" is Aman's "hanging beam". When the whole world had forgotten her, when Black Wind Stronghold was in ruins, she finally felt absolute nothingness in this endless loop. She died not of punishment, not of revenge, but of ultimate weariness with the cycle of cannibalism. She hung herself in an attempt to exit this closed loop that she was powerless to change. This is the weakest "human resistance" made with the last bit of strength by a man who has been forced to become a devil by the times.
