The Flavors of Chang’an

The day Shen Xing was thrown out of the manor, all she had with her was a bundle, a few copper coins, and a deed of servitude. In her previous life, she'd been a regional manager for a restaurant chain, overseeing more than a dozen locations and hundreds of employees. In this life, all she got was a drafty, dilapidated shop. Half the stove had collapsed, the beams were covered in dust, and she couldn't even hang a decent sign out front. Someone else might have cried first. Shen Xing did the math instead: good location, no rent, and a blacksmith next door, so no need to worry about kitchen knives. She decided to get started and see how it went. A single bowl of wontons brought the whole street to watch. One seasonal dish silenced even the pickiest diners. And the idea of a prepaid membership left Chang'an's merchants utterly astonished. And that minor official who always stops across from her shop for a moment before leaving seems to have a story of his own. This isn't a story about a “revenge queen's return.” It's about a girl who refuses to accept her fate and finds her place in the world one bowl of hot soup at a time. A cozy, sweet tale full of laughter and tears, bickering and bustle, with the simplest yet most moving way of life tucked amid the everyday warmth of Chang'an.
