Become the Master of the Undead After Picking up a Rich Woman

I don't quite understand, can't energy crystals be converted directly? Doesn't the item information pop up when you get it? Why don't other lords know how to use it? If the information doesn't pop up on its own, how does the protagonist know that resources can be converted?

It's a good book, with good pacing and characterization, but there are too many supporting characters, and the progress of the main plot is a bit slow. It's not even out of the novice village yet.
