Flowers for Camille

"Flowers for Camille" tells the story of Li Xiang, an old man who has been hospitalized for a long time. During the years of blurred cognition, he always lived as "Colonel Leon Buendia". He guarded an old typewriter, waiting day after day for a letter that would never arrive. He was obsessed with a girl named Camilia and a dance that was half a century late. The nurse Wang Desheng accompanied him silently, and it was not until the old man was about to die that he revealed the truth: Camelia never existed. She was his long-departed wife Zhao Xiulan, whom the old man had spent his whole life fantasizing about guarding. The novel uses a narrative intertwined with fiction and reality to explore memory, aging, loneliness and the redemption of love.
