The Lantuo Sutra

The world of surgeon Li Lu is one endless downpour. His stethoscope picks up no heartbeat, only the sound of a wooden fish drum coming from inside his daughter. Gods and Buddhas are creditors, cultivating immortality is borrowing money, and his daughter is the coveted “debt core.” To keep them alive, Li Lu sews his mouth shut, grabs a scalpel, and charges into a world of the uncanny. He tames debt-bearing beasts and cuts gods and immortals out like tumors. When the gods and Buddhas kneel and beg him to kill his daughter to settle the debt, he points the blade at himself instead. “I’ll bear this debt alone.”
