"The Long Waves in the Law Sea" written by Guo Qianhui is a documentary novel about the rule of law in China from a lawyer's perspective. This is not the story of a hero, but the story of a group of legal people. They sit in court and squat in the dust at the construction site; they write rigorous legal documents and listen to the parties cry until they choke; they help migrant workers collect wages, conduct compliance medical examinations for companies, sign protection orders for victims of domestic violence, and answer calls for help late at night.
