The Divine Face Revealed

Pangu awoke from chaos and cleaved the heavens and earth apart with his axe. The clear rose to form the sky, while the turbid sank to form the earth. After Pangu died, his body became all things: his breath became wind and clouds, his voice became thunder, his left eye became the sun, his right eye the moon, his limbs and torso became the four cardinal directions and five sacred mountains, his blood became rivers, his veins became the contours of the land, his flesh became fields, his hair and beard became the stars, his skin and fur became plants, his teeth and bones became metals and stone, his marrow became pearls and jade, and his sweat became rain.

But there was one thing Pangu could not transform.

The Birth of the Plague

As Pangu lay dying, the last wisp of turbid chaos inside him refused to disperse. Neither flesh nor metal or stone, it had no form or substance. It dwelled only in the fear, greed, and resentment of living beings. With Pangu’s final breath, it spread into the newly formed world and became the “plague”: neither ghost nor demon, but an unfinished “disorder” left behind by creation.

The plague has no form, so it cannot be slain. It has no body, so it cannot be imprisoned. Like a crack in creation, it can seep into the world wherever living beings harbor negative emotions.
