We Said We’d Play Esports, So How Did We End Up Saving the World?

China, ChinaJoy, the booth for Global War: Insect Swarm. An interview is underway. “Players are curious about where the idea for this game came from.” “I had a dream that day. I dreamed of the future, six years from now. I was watching an air show at Nellis Air Force Base in the United States when the ground suddenly collapsed and an insect swarm poured out. At first I ran, then I picked up a gun and fought back, but in the end, I still died.” “When I woke up, I thought, if this were a game, it would be so Cooooool~” “I hear you studied weapons. What made you switch to game development?” “After graduating from college, I interviewed for dozens of jobs without success. Then a company happened to be hiring a military game designer, so I sent in my resume on a whim. I never expected to get an interview. Director Ye asked me how I would design the story for a war game, and I thought the events from my dream fit pretty well. I got the job without giving it much thought.” “American players currently think the game disparages the U.S. military. They say that if the insect race really invaded, North America couldn't possibly fall in a month. What's your take?” “My take? If American players disagree with how the story unfolds, they can try our game and play as soldiers or other characters. They can decide for themselves how long they last.” “One last question. Some players say you're reborn, and that you made this game to save the world. Is that true?” “Hahaha! That's nonsense. It'd be more believable to say I have a System!” Facing the camera, Wang Zhenyi laughed and waved his hand.
