Ten Years of Medical Journey, One Year of Huai'an

In the autumn of 1995, Chen Xingmian, a young man from Huailiu Village in Nanshan Village, was supposed to be running and playing under the old locust tree, but his childhood was shattered by the diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. From the village clinic to the provincial hematology hospital, in ten years, the growth path from the age of eight to the age of eighteen was filled with chemotherapy, puncture and bedside study. My parents spent everything they had. My father, Chen Mancun, worked at the construction site to move bricks and slept in a warehouse to save medical expenses. My mother, Su Xiuying, acted as both a relative and a teacher at the hospital bedside. The villagers in Huailiu Village were never absent. Mayor Li Shouyi's loudspeaker awakened the goodwill of the whole village. Aunt Wang Cuihua's seven-year guardianship warmed the years in the ward. Professor Liu Renhe, a kind-hearted doctor, and Zhao Tiezhu, who anonymously donated bone marrow, used goodwill to sustain life in desperate situations. The pain did not diminish Xingmian's resilience, and his hospital bed became a desk. He taught himself from elementary school to high school, and vowed to "save children like me." From a recipient to a benefactor, from a sick child to a hematologist, he counterattacked and grew up with the hope and goodwill of the whole village. He spent his life fulfilling the promise of "health is the key to life, and life is entrusted to him", so that the life force and goodwill as tough as a locust root will continue to grow over the years.
