In the winter of 1923, Li Jiahua was born in a small foreign-style building next to the British Concession in Hankou. Grandfather Li Shouyi is a cashier of Huashang Bank with a good salary; grandmother Su Wanqing returned from studying abroad and opened a private Western medicine clinic, and her family is well off. In 1929, the Hankou Special Municipal Government was established, and Jiangcheng became more prosperous. Jiahua spent a carefree childhood in a foreign house, a foreign car, and a cream cake.
