Joys and Sorrows

This is the story of a low-class woman who longs to find a way out of her miserable fate. Her name is Li Mei. She was born in the poor southwest of China in 1992. When she was 8 years old, her father was imprisoned for drunken assault and theft. In the same year, her mother chose to divorce her imprisoned father and remarry because she was unable to shoulder the burden of raising three children at home. Li Mei, her elder sister and younger brother were arranged by their mother to be fostered in the uncle's house. After her remarriage, her mother sent them rice, flour, oil and salt every year, plus several hundred living expenses, and they lived a hard life under the supervision of the uncle's family. Subsequently, she followed her aunt to a luxury hotel in a big city, performed in a club to survive, and then met the lover who changed her life due to an accident and started a new life...
