About the relationship between Pei Jin and Duan Huaiyu.

Pei Jin: “We're just ordinary neighbors.”

Duan Huaiyu lowered his eyes and, after a long pause, said, “At the baby's grab ceremony, she reached for my hand.”

When it came to Duan Huaiyu, Pei Jin could spend an entire evening study session chatting with her friends about how awful he was. For instance, when a boy confessed to her in their second year of high school, Duan Huaiyu went to the office to pick up exam papers and, pretending it was an afterthought, turned to mention to her homeroom teacher:

“Mr. Lin, I think Pei may be showing signs of an early relationship.”

As for the boy who confessed to Pei Jin, Duan Huaiyu coolly put a stop to it.

“Our family doesn't allow anyone to date early.”

Ever since Pei Jin grabbed his hand at the baby-grab ceremony when they were little, Duan Huaiyu had quietly believed that he and the troublesome young lady before him would probably be bound together for life. But he liked being with her, and was willing to stay by her side and solve every problem for her, so that this troublesome young lady could walk a smooth road through life.
